OUR SERVICES

Routine Exams

Thank you for taking the time to visit our dental checkup page.
At Riverside Dental Practice, We will carry out a thorough examination of your teeth and your gums as well as other surrounding tissues. Where necessary, we will take digital X-rays to aid our diagnosis.
Dental Fillings

What is the difference between white & silver fillings?

White fillings bond to the tooth tissue far better than silver fillings and look much more natural and more closely resemble tooth enamel. As white fillings bond to tooth tissue very well, this has some protective effect against further tooth wall fracture. However metallic silver fillings are stronger than resin white composite resin fillings and have a longer average lifespan.

Silver amalgam fillings contain mercury and the use of mercury in silver fillings has raised some controversy over the years within the dental profession. Although the health risks of mercury within fillings, is as yet unproven, some patients prefer not to have any silver fillings in case health risks come to light in future.

White fillings are more technically demanding than silver fillings to do and require more surgery time and hence usually cost more than silver fillings.

Patients can increase the lifespan of their fillings by brushing and flossing daily, reducing the frequency of dietary sugar intake and seeing their dentists regularly so that their fillings can be closely monitored.

Teeth alignment with Invisalign

At Riverside Dental Practice, we use Invisalign to treat a variety of orthodontic concerns including teeth which are crooked, crowded or have gaps. Because it is clear, removable and comfortable, it won’t interfere with your life. Because Invisalign is nearly invisible, it would be difficult to detect that you are wearing Invisalign, so you can smile with confidence during and after your treatment. You can remove Invisalign, so you can eat and drink what you like. In fact, studies have shown that it can be better for your dental hygiene during treatment as well! With no metal or sharp edges, Invisalign is comfortable to wear and does not cause allergies.

What are the advantages of Invisalign treatment?

  • Predictable treatment, as Invisalign is planned in advance, we can more accurately predict when your treatment will be finished.

  • Cosmetically superior to normal braces due to near invisibility of Invisalign aligners. So, no more embarrassing metal wires.

  • No metal allergies due to brackets and wires.

  • Greater treatment visibility and easier planning with our treatment software.

  • Custom manufacture means a tailored match to your teeth, for reduced irritation and fewer scratches.

  • Invisalign is Removable, so you can eat and drink what you want while in treatment.

  • Brushing and Flossing your teeth are not a problem.

Dental Hygiene

Beautiful clean teeth are key to the way we look and feel about ourselves and how others see us.  We all try to look after our teeth: we brush, we floss, we use mouth wash regularly, but sometimes that isn’t enough to remove the toughest plaque deposits .If the teeth are not regularly cleaned and monitored, plaque (collection of bacteria) builds up, leading to an increase in the toxins produced by the bacteria. This leads to inflammation. If not dealt with in time, the plaque will lead to loss of gum attachment to the tooth, and hence a space is created between the surface of the tooth and the gum, which is called a periodontal pocket. This in itself, will lead to more plaque migration down the pocket, which triggers more inflammation, hence causing gradual bone loss, and if left untreated, to tooth loss.
Periodontal (gum) disease, is a condition involving inflammation of the gums, and loss of supporting structures around a tooth.
If left untreated, periodontal disease will lead to tooth loss.
Dentures

Flexible Dentures provide a great level of comfort for wearers due to the fact that they adapt to the shape of the gums. This means that there is no need for metal clasps or dental adhesive to hold them in place.

As the name suggests, the dentures flex into position while providing a number of benefits for people who may have found it difficult to wear traditional dentures as a result of irregularities with the shape of their mouths.

Metal dentures are used to fill in gaps of any missing teeth and are particularly ideal for those people looking for a stronger denture that can replace multiple missing teeth. Manufactured from cobalt chromium or titanium, they are attached to the remaining natural teeth with metal or tooth coloured clasps.

Teeth Whitening

Teeth whitening is a completely safe and harmless procedure as long as it is carried out under the supervision of your dentist.

Sensitivity during or a few days after treatment is the most commonly reported side effect. However, that usually quickly disappears on its own or can be eased using a sensitive toothpaste and fluoride mouthwash.

What is teeth whitening?

Teeth whitening involves bleaching your teeth to make them lighter. Teeth whitening can't make your teeth brilliant white, but it can lighten the existing colour by several shades.

Who can perform teeth whitening?

Teeth whitening is a form of dentistry and should only be performed by a dentist or another regulated dental professional, such as a dental hygienist or dental therapist.

What happens during teeth whitening at the dentist?

The dentist will take an impression of your teeth to make a mouth guard and will instruct you how to use it with a bleaching gel. Then, using your mouth guard at home, you regularly apply the gel for a specified period of time over two weeks.

What causes teeth to go yellow?

The most common causes of tooth discoloration are drinks such as red wine, coffee and tea, food such as curry, and smoking.

Discoloration penetrates the surface of the tooth so brushing alone will never restore your teeth to their original colour.

How long does teeth whitening last?

Depending on your diet, smoking habits, oral hygiene and other factors, teeth whitening lasts an average of a year and a half, after which some patients request a top-up

Anti-wrinkle Treatment

Keeping your face smooth is no easy task. Wrinkles form as our skin gets older and less elastic, and the sun does its fair share of damage too.

Injectable anti ageing treatments are a quick and convenient way to smooth out those lines on the forehead and around the eyes and mouth without any need for surgery.

Following a free no obligation consultation, an individual treatment plan is drawn up, with consideration to the type and quantity of product you required. Therefore cost of treatments is unique to each individual client.

FAQs

What causes wrinkles?

Over exposure to the sun, smoking, city living, squinting at monitors, and, of course, the ageing process all take their toll on your skin.

As you get older, your face starts to develop fine lines and wrinkles as collagen and elastin fibres break down, causing skin to lose its strength and smoothness.

Who should have Anti-wrinkle injections?

They are the treatment of choice for people who have forehead lines, frown lines or wrinkles around their eyes which they wish to reduce.

What will the treatment involve?

The treatment will involve a doctor making a series of small injections into the muscles of your face. The injection process itself will only take several minutes.

Does it hurt?

The procedure is largely pain free, with the exception of mild discomfort which is experienced due to the small needle injection involved. You may notice some soreness in the injection site directly after the treatment, but this should subside quickly.

Are anti-wrinkle injections safe?

Botulinum toxin has been in medical use for more than four decades, and it is administered in such a way that it only affects your muscles and sweat glands – it does not reach any other part of the body. As long as it is administered by a qualified medical professional, the risks are extremely minimal.

How does anti-wrinkle injection work?

It blocks the nerve impulses to the muscles so they relax and can’t contract. This causes lines and wrinkles to soften too.

Are there any after care/side effects?

You’ll need to avoid tilting your head forwards for a few hours and shouldn’t exercise for 24 hours after, but that’s it! You can just take ordinary painkillers to relive any temporary discomfort you might have around the site of the injections.

When will I be able to see the results of the treatment?

As it takes a little while for your muscles to relax completely, results aren’t immediate. You’ll see the difference between around five days to two weeks after your treatment.

How long does it last?

This will differ from person-to-person, but it’s usually between three and four months – that’s why we usually recommend having a top up treatment every four months.
